In a blog post on September 17, portfolio.com's Jeff Bercovici announced that the New York Times had decided to end its paid-content program - TimesSelect.
You heard it here first, folks: The New York Times is indeed putting paid to its paid-content program, TimesSelect. Starting tomorrow at midnight, it's all free, including the archives, according to an article to be published in tomorrow's edition.
The decision, which will warm the hearts of heavy-hitting Times columnists who chafed at watching their stories go unread, "reflect[s] a growing view in the industry that subscription fees cannot outweigh the potential ad revenue from increased traffic on a free site..."
