Apple Computer’s release of the iPad has created an entirely new definition of electronic media. The move of other computer and device makers into the tablet marketplace underscores the reality that this market is only poised to grow. Four journalism organizations joined forces in September for a strategy session to explore how publishers are capitalizing on this trend and moving local news organizations toward a sustainable digital future.
Tablet/Mobile Strategies and Visions for News Organizations was a two-day workshop sponsored by the Reynolds Journalism Institute, the Digital Publishing Alliance, the American Society of News Editors and the Mid-America Press Institute.
The joint workshop was held Thursday, Sept. 29 and Friday, Sept. 30 at the St. Louis Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis, Mo., and preceded the Society of News Design’s annual workshop, which was held through Sunday; the Friday sessions were held jointly with SND.
