The lights were dim and the audience sat motionless. Footage of a pseudo-military program for teenage males in South Africa played on the massive screen before them. The group followed the poignant stories of several young boys on their path to building character. Then, within an instant the air was sucked out of the room as the camp proved to be a breeding ground for turning young men into racist militants.
The roughly eight-minute documentary was one of four played at the Pictures of the Year International Presentation in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre Thursday, which was the final day of the Reynolds School of Journalism’s J-Week 2012.
