Truth Goggles: Creating a “credibility layer” for the Web

Schultz’s goal was to continue developing a real-time fact-checking tool (Truth Goggles) he created as part of his master’s thesis at the MIT Media Lab. Truth Goggles needs to be updated with credible, up-to-date, local information to move past prototype status.

Truth Goggles automatically identifies content on a person’s screen that has been fact checked by credible sources. It then helps guide the user through the process of thinking about that information more carefully. Schultz says it also has the potential to improve the quality of journalism by providing a “fact check” authorship tool similar to the ubiquitous “spell check.”
