Anne Thompson
Artist and writer Anne Thompson is the founder and curator of the I-70 Sign Show, a public-art billboard and event project (launched in April 2014) that positions the Midwestern interstate as a site for cultural and political commentary.
Her studio practice uses painting, works on paper, needlepoint, and artist’s books to explore communication systems around language, color, and decor. Thompson has had solo exhibitions in New York and Berlin, and her work is in public collections including the Yale Art Gallery, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, the New York Public Library, and the Library of Congress. Before receiving her master’s of fine arts (Yale 2002), Thompson was a foreign correspondent for The Associated Press. She is a contributing reviewer for Artforum and lives in Columbia, Missouri, with her husband and daughter.
