Gazzetta’s monthly RJI Innovation Column will share how they use service design to move news and information businesses from good intentions to actionable strategy. Gazzetta was founded in 2024 by Patrick Boehler, joined by Madison Karas, David Kuszmar, and collaborators.

Madison Karas co-leads the Service Desk, Gazzetta’s applied service design practice for civic media. She leads product and research initiatives for independent media and startup newsrooms, from small shops to large operations, and is interested in building a better, more intentional future for news media for all involved. Some of her previous work involved stints with 2PuntosPlatform, Tiny News Collective, The Baltimore Banner, and Resolve Philadelphia.
