Matt MacVey
Matt MacVey is the Impact Producer for the Reynolds Journalism Institute. In this role, he works with RJI staff, fellows, and partners to grow and measure the impact of RJI’s resources and programs for the journalism industry. He joined RJI in 2024.

Prior to RJI, MacVey has worked on many programs supporting innovators and entrepreneurs in media and technology with a focus on local news. From 2021 through 2023, he was the Community & Project Lead at NYU’s NYC Media Lab where he ran the AI & Local News Challenge and other innovation programs. For five years at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism he worked on various projects including the Entrepreneurial Journalism Creators Program, the Tow-Knight Fellowship, and the Emerging Tech Lab. Before journalism school, he was an assistant in the exhibitions department of the American Museum of Natural History.
MacVey earned a master’s degree in entrepreneurial journalism at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of Wooster.
His interests include music, film, birdwatching, learning Spanish, bouldering and a good cup of coffee.
