Bringing robust visualizations to online journalism

While at the Reynolds Journalism Institute, Trina Chiasson coordinated and executed a successful Kickstarter campaign to bring Infoactive (a Web-based platform that helps people make interactive infographics with live data) to public beta. The campaign raised more than $55,000 — 450 percent above the original goal — garnering support from nearly 1,500 backers around the world.

During her fellowship, she also ideated and executed “Data + Design,” an open source e-book with more than 50 volunteer contributors from 14 different countries. The project kicked off in February 2014 with a Write-A-Thon in Chicago; the book was released August 18, 2014.

Throughout her fellowship, Chiasson spoke regularly at industry events and conferences, including the Society for News Design, the Mobile-First Symposium at RJI, and the Do Good Data conference.
