When sources refuse to engage, journalists are forced to do more than report, they have to defend credibility, explain absence and maintain transparency under pressure.

RJI and SmithGeiger are conducting a national study to understand how growing hostility and strategic silence are reshaping journalism and how newsrooms can respond more effectively.
