Kevin Poortinga leads the USA Today Lab, a department designed to quickly incubate concepts, new businesses and new initiatives for the media network, which consists of more than 100 local news organizations and flagship USA TODAY. When not prototyping or experimenting, the Lab also champions an internal innovation grants program, a hybrid intrapreneurial development program and idea tournament for the company.

For more than 20 years, Poortinga has occupied several editorial, creative and digital leadership roles in the media industry at Gannett Digital, The Indianapolis Star and Howard Publications (now part of Lee Enterprises). Poortinga is a 1995 graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
