Yong Volz is an associate professor of journalism studies at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Volz, who was born and raised in China, received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from People’s University of China and a master’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also holds a doctoral degree in mass communication with a minor in history from the University of Minnesota.

She lives in Columbia with her son Theo and her husband Michael, who is an assistant teaching professor and program coordinator of Chinese at the University of Missouri.

Volz enjoys spending time with her family, teaching her son Chinese, gardening and learning about people and their lives by reading biographies and memoirs.
